Congratulations to Professor Elaine Gibson, recipient of the College of Physicians & Surgeons of Nova Scotia's 2013 Dr Robert F Maudsley Memorial Research/Study Grant.

Professor Gibson's proposal, "Best practices for destruction of electronic medical records" aims to identify best practices for legislation and policies concerning physicians' obligation as to the destruction of health information, with a particular focus on electronic medical records (EMRs). The proposed project will reap substantial benefit to all Colleges of Physicians and Surgeons and the entire medical community.

Professor Gibson's research interests include health-care policy, health law, medical malpractice, privacy and confidentiality of health information, and public health law.

The grant, established in 2009, honours the late Dr Maudsley’s distinguished international career in academic medicine. Applications are assessed on their relevance to the mission and work of the College and its associated programs.  The grant supports study or research that provides useful insights for the College and/or the medical regulatory community.

Congratulations, Professor Gibson!
