Special Topics in Anti-Discrimination: The Canadian Anti-Racism Imperative

The Schulich School of Law invites you to attend the inaugural lecture in its new speaker series, Special Topics in Anti-Discrimination, titled “The Canadian Anti-Racism Imperative” delivered by Robert S. Wright.

In this presentation, Wright will discuss the evolution of our understanding of how best to address the reality of ever present and increasing diversity in the Canadian population. From separate but equal to multi-culturalism, and from cultural sensitivity to anti-racism, the language and the project has been changing and maturing over the last nearly 100 years.

Wright will also discuss how anti-racism has emerged to call attention to the presence and nature of systemic racism in our social, institutional, and even interpersonal lives. He asserts that properly understanding the nature of racism, its origins, and its ubiquity is the key to creating the tools necessary to disrupt its hold on us and teach us to live peaceably on Indigenous land.
