Dalhousie Law Graduate Society: Research Transition Conference

The Dalhousie Law Graduate Society (DLGS) invites you to its 2nd annual Research Transition Conference – Career Paths and Excellence After Grad School.

It is not unusual for current or potential graduate students to question the purpose of spending years in further studies running an advanced research program such as a doctorate (PhD), or a master's degree (LLM). Sometimes, the sentiment is that a PhD or LLM is exhausting, if not frustrating, and, perhaps, only suitable for would-be academics. Sometimes graduate students ask themselves questions such as: what's next after graduate school? What happens to this paper that I am burning the candle for? Will my thesis be anything more than a requirement for obtaining a degree? How can I turn my research into a marketing tool for my career, or how do I advance my career prospects with my research experience? How do I get decision-makers to notice my work and maybe utilize it? We have also sometimes seen policymakers point to a disconnect between academic research and the "real world," insinuating that academics live in some chimeric reality.

The Research Transition Conference aims to bring together crossover academics and enthusiastic graduate students to facilitate conversations around these questions. The conference seeks to both equip and inspire graduate law students and provide a platform for this class of students to present their work and get feedback from academics and colleagues.
