Mini Law School on the Road

As part of Dal's 200th-anniverary celebrations, we're taking some of our Mini Law School public lectures on the road!

In this session, the speaker is Professor Lucie Guibault, who will discuss "How Can Indigenous Culture Be Legally Protected?" Canada is home to many rich and varied cultural traditions, including Indigenous cultural heritage that has been passed down through many generations. But many see Indigenous cultural property as being at signficant risk without legal protection of some form.

Can Canadian Intellectual Property Law be used to legally protect traditional cultures in Canada? Is western legal thinking about intellectual property best suited to do so? Looking at the international efforts underway to wrestle with these questions, Professor Guibault encourages us to explore how we might best protect Indigenous cultural heritage.
