“The Arctic Ocean, Environmental Stewardship, and the Law of the Sea”

Tore Henriksen specializes in the law of the sea. He was the first director of the LLM program on law of the sea, established at UiT in 2008. Since earning his PhD in international fisheries law in 2001, he has published on international marine environmental law and international maritime law. In recent years, he has been particularly interested in the law of the sea as applied to the Arctic.

Professor Henriksen is the director of the K.G. Jebsen Centre for the Law of the Sea (JCLOS). The research centre was established in 2013 based on funding from a private foundation, UiT The Arctic University of Norway, and other external funding. JCLOS currently employs 27 associates who cover a wide spectrum of issues relating to the law of the sea.
