Steve Richy was nominated by students who were fortunate to have such a clinical educator as a mentor for a ten-week period at the Spryfield Medical Clinic in 2020. Steve created a rich environment for the clinical practice experience and offered endless opportunities for learning while playing an active role in the exchange of ideas and experiences.
The students wrote of Steve:
"We would like to nominate our Clinical Instructor Steve Richey to be recognized for excellence in facilitating student learning. Our placement with the Spryfield Medical Clinic was a unique, and innovative experience. During the placement, there were times of uncertainty and times of success. Steve was a guiding presence for us throughout the entire process. Steve put in more hours than we could have expected, sparked spirited conversation and educated us daily. When it came time to care for patients, Steve was always there to guide our thought process. A major reason that we were so dedicated to the project was because Steve assured us from the start that it was meaningful and important for the future of Physiotherapy. With his guidance, we learned that inspiration can yield concrete results and growth. We thank you for taking our nomination into consideration for this award."
Thank you Steve, the faculty and students of the School of Physiotherapy are most appreciative of your continuing commitment to supporting the clinical education of our MSc-PT students.
We would like to thank all of our outstanding Clinical Instructors! When it comes to mentoring, some clinical instructors go up and beyond in providing a rich environment for clinical practice experience and endless opportunities for learning while playing an active role in the exchange of ideas and experiences. It is our great pleasure to have presented these Clinical Instructors with the Dalhousie University's School of Physiotherapy Clinical Education Award.
