Partnership between Indigenous‑governed store corporation and the research community a world first in reducing merchandising of sugary foods, beverages with healthier purchasing as a result

How food is promoted in retail settings impacts what consumers buy. Healthy Stores 2020 was a real-world community trial in remote Indigenous Australia to study the effect of restricting merchandising of unhealthy products on sales; specifically sugar, sugar-sweetened beverages, sweet biscuits and confectionery. The goal was to design a store environment where shoppers can choose freely, without highly refined marketing strategies affecting choices.

Inside the SHaG Lab: Dr. Matthew Numer’s research on sexual health and gender

Dr. Matthew Numer (Associate Professor, School of Health and Human Performance) describes his educational background as diverse, which explains his research portfolio. Hailing from Pittsburgh, Dr. Numer taught social studies to middle schoolers and high schoolers and pursued his Masters in school counselling. A friend of his had connections to Dalhousie, so he travelled to Halifax and completed an interdisciplinary PhD in Sociology and Health on history of HIV and gay men in Nova Scotia.

Dal Health Prof Approaches her Profession as an Art as well as a Science

Dal Health School of Nursing associate professor Dr. Lisa Goldberg would say her professional career as a nurse clinician, educator, and researcher began as a contemporary dance student. To some that may seem like an unlikely place for a nurse scholar to start, but to her it is perfectly logical.
