Research Interests & Activities

Dr. LaRoche has a long-standing interest in the benefits of vision screen in young children as a method of improving vision outcomes in the population at large. In fact, he was integral to the establishment of the Nova Scotia Vision Screening Program in 1988. Since helping to found the program, Dr. LaRoche has studied its effectiveness, providing an excellent example of the power of research to inform and guide health policy makers and implement or improve public health initiatives for the good of the community.

Dr. LaRoche’s research interests also encompass the areas of strabismus and amblyopia and he has been involved in his own, investigator-initiated projects, supervision of MSc student projects and participation in multicentre studies on these topics. Dr. LaRoche has recently become an Investigator in the Pediatric Eye Disease Investigator Group (PEDIG).
