International Graduate Student Peer Mentorship

Build your network, engage with the campus community and learn about life as a Dalhousie graduate student

The International Graduate Student Peer Mentorship program matches graduate students with upper-year peers to support the graduate experience at Dalhousie. When you join the program as a mentee, you will be connected to other international graduate students and have a mentor supporting you through one-on-one meetings. As a mentor, you will have the opportunity to share your experiences as a student who has made the transition to studying in a Canadian graduate program. Meeting topics will include:

• Transitioning to university life in Canada
• Navigating your roles and responsibilities as a graduate student
• Finding available supports and services at Dalhousie

Please note that mentors will not provide immigration-related advice. For those matters, please contact the International Centre.

This is an exciting opportunity to meet other graduate students and learn about Dalhousie from someone who has been there first-hand. We are now recruiting for both mentors and mentees for the winter 2022 term – learn more and see how to apply below.

Become a mentee

If you are interested in being matched up with a graduate student mentor, please complete the mentee application form by January 18, 2022 (5:00 p.m. Atlantic time). Applications are open to students from all programs and degree levels, regardless of year of study.

Become a mentor

Are you a current international graduate student who is interested in being a mentor?  This is a paid work opportunity, and you will gain leadership and intercultural communication skills. The program will launch in February 2022 and end on March 31, 2022, and mentors must be available to attend a mandatory training session and an initial “meet and greet” workshop with mentees.

Mentors will be matched with a maximum of three mentees, and we will work to match mentees and mentors based on available mentors and topic areas. If you're interested, please complete the mentor application form by January 18, 2022 (5:00 p.m. Atlantic time). We will contact you afterwards about next steps.
