Director of the School of Dental Hygiene Dr. Leigha Rock was inducted as the president of the Canadian Association for Dental Research (CADR) in New York City at the annual meeting of the American Association for Dental, Oral, and Craniofacial Research (AADOCR) on March 12-15. Rock now begins her two-year term having previously served as vice-president and councillor-at-large.
"Stronger Together: Advancing Oral Health Through Collaboration and Innovation" was the theme of Rock’s speeches at her induction and at the opening ceremony. In them she stressed the rich history the AADOCR and CADR have of working together to combat oral diseases, pioneer new treatments, and influence public policy.
"The challenges facing the scientific community have never been greater," she said. Collaboration is "imperative" to address global challenges, expand knowledge, and drive technological and economic progress. The challenges "transcend borders, and so must our solutions," she said.
In her new role, Rock says she is committed to fostering an environment of inclusivity, collaboration, and innovation. "Together, we will ensure that our research is not only advancing knowledge but also making a tangible difference in people's lives."
