It gives me great pleasure to announce the reappointment of Dr. Tom Boran to a second term as Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry, effective July 1, 2013 to June 30, 2018. Dr. Boran will continue to lead the future development of the Faculty that has earned an international reputation for providing outstanding education.

Dr. Boran is a Dalhousie graduate who joined the Faculty in 1979 as a part-time lecturer. He was Division Head of General Dentistry from 1990 to 1996, Acting Chair of the Dental Clinical Sciences in 2005, Associate Dean in 2006 and has been Dean since 2008. He has twice won the Professor of the Year Award given by the Dalhousie Dental Student Society (Class of 1992 and Class of 1996) and is also a two-time recipient of the W.W. Wood Award for the Excellence in Dental Education from the Association of Canadian Faculties of Dentistry (1996, 2005). Dr. Boran is a Fellow of the American College of Dentistry.

This year, under the leadership of Dr. Boran, the Faculty of Dentistry became the first Canadian school to win the prestigious William J. Gies Award for achievement as an academic dental institution. The Gies award is presented by the American Dental Education Association for vision, innovation, and achievement in support of oral health and dental education.

Please join me in congratulating Dr. Tom Boran on his reappointment.
