Abstract:

Despite data playing a key role in the current age, this data could be meaningless if not interpreted appropriately. A known fact is that incorrect information always leads to the wrong direction; therefore, dealing with information requires extra care. Certainly, information is visualized for different interpretations including making critical and non-critical decisions. Graphs are considered the powerful way to represent huge volumes of data in little space. Different formats are being developed for visualization, but improper, unequipped and junky graphs could affect the matter in a negative direction.

International Business Communications Standards (IBCS) presented standards for graphical visualization of data. These standards are covering the presentation style, the structural layout, and even the color scheme in the graphical visualization. Founders of IBCS are claiming simplicity, information enrichment, and preciseness in IBCS compatible visualizations. This study has tested the IBCS standards by comparing them with normally available standards. An online survey revealed that IBCS standards help in designing information enriched, easily predictable graphical visualization.
