Deciding what you want to do is never easy. After starting second year engineering at Dal, I found that the program didn't suit me anymore. Dropping out of school, I spent a year learning about web development on my own; after this period, I felt that a formal education in computer science would be worthwhile.
Switching to CS I found the curriculum to be much more relevant to my interests, which boosted my academic performance and opened up new opportunities that I’d never considered before. Having now been a teaching assistant for numerous courses and also having worked as a research assistant, I’ve been able to engage with the faculty and fellow students to both learn and teach in many rewarding ways. Yet my life isn’t all about work - I’m still involved in sports as the vice president of the badminton club, and I still have time for family and friends, many who I met in the program.
If you’re considering a degree in computer science at Dalhousie but aren’t 100% sure if it’s a good fit for you, feel free to contact me and I’d be happy to answer your questions, share my experiences, and provide advice based on your situation.
