ESL Communication + Web Development

July 23 - Aug. 17, 2018

Registration Closed for Summer 2018.

Learn English by Living in English

Dalhousie University’s Summer English and Web Development in Canada program combines English classes with a Web Development module offered through the Faculty of Computer Science. The Web Development course is not a Dalhousie credit course, but you will receive a certificate upon successful completion, which you may present to your university. Students will also have the opportunity to practice English skills in the community of Halifax, and participate in evening and weekend activities.

Web Development module

This project-based course begins with an overview of key web concepts and skills for creating and maintaining websites. Additional topics include hypertext markup languages, style sheets, client-side programming, multimedia foundations, dynamic content and website organization and maintenance.

NOTE: This course is recommended for 2nd or 3rd year students in Computer science, Informatics, Compute Engineering, Math, and Statistics.

The Schedule

Mornings consist of intensive reading, writing, speaking and listening classes - from 9:00-12:30.

In the afternoons, when you are not in Web Development class, the Interacting with the English Language workshops allow you to use the language you’ve learned in real-life situations in the community - from 1:30-4:00.

On weekends, visit the beautiful parks, beaches, lakes and historic sites the province of Nova Scotia is famous for. Halifax is Canada’s friendliest city and it comes alive in summer with festivals and events. There’s time for shopping and nightlife, too!

Safe and Convenient Housing

You will stay right on campus in one of the university residences. English-speaking Canadian language assistants live with you in residence for conversation practice and to provide you with information and organize activities. You will have the opportunity to speak English every day in class, around the city, and at home in residence.
