Course Objectives

On completion of Module III Electronics: Semiconductor Devices and Circuits, students will have acquired a basic knowledge of common semiconductor device and circuits. Rectifier diodes, zener diodes, light emitting diodes and circuits; bipolar junction transistors, biasing, and common amplifier circuits; operational amplifier circuits, active filters, and oscillators; and voltage regulators are discussed.

Exam         

Student Responsibilities

The student is responsible for all material. The main source of the material will be the textbook; however, the instructor may provide additional material from other sources. All chapter material will not be covered in the online session. The student is expected to read and understand the assigned material.

Methods of Instruction

Material will be primarily delivered through Brightspace Desire2Learn online platform (https://dal.brightspace.com/d2l/login) and following the Electronics Technology Fundamentals textbook. Each week a one hour online session is an opportunity for students to ask questions, discuss theory from the previous week’s assignment, and receive tutorial instruction.

Studying material consists of the assigned chapter(s) and the assigned online notes for a particular session. The online session should provide ample time for student’s questions and discussions. The online session IS NOT a substitute for reviewing the assigned materials as it will not be possible to cover all the session's material in a 60 minute tutorial.

Students are encouraged read the corresponding chapter in the textbook and the assigned online notes provided BEFORE the on-line session. During the weekly 60-minute on-line session (starting at 7:00 PM EST) that section will be discussed and all questions answered.

Methods of Evaluation

At the end of each session a short assignment or session quiz will be assigned. At the end of the module, an exam will be released. Assignments, quizzes and exams will be released through the Brightspace, Desire2Learn online platform.

Marking Scheme

Quizzes

  • Typically, there is one quiz per session.
  • There is an unlimited time for the students to submit a quiz – while a module is open (5 to 6 weeks). However, quizzes should be submitted before the final exam of that module.
  • Students are allowed only one attempt to answer each question.

Final Exams

  • There is a final exam at the end of the module
  • There is a 14-day window for the students to submit the final exams. This window will open for 14 days – starting at the last on-line session of each module.
  • Students are allowed only one attempt to answer each question.
  • Missed final exam: If you have a valid doctor's note, you can re-schedule the missed final exam.
  • Students are on their honor and expected to complete quizzes and exams on their own, and not share their answers to quizzes and exams with anyone else.
