What is included in the Certificate Program fee?

The certificate fee includes tuition, 90-hours of instruction, all materials and light snacks.  This program is HST exempt. 

What is included in the workshop fees?

Workshop fees include taxes, all materials and light snacks.  The workshop fee is due upon registration.  

We accept payment online or by cheque, credit card or purchase order.  Cheques should be made payable to Dalhousie University College of Continuing Education.  Please contact us if you have any questions or concerns regarding your registration.

What are the admission requirements?

There are no pre-requisites for admission to the Certificate in Adult Education program although some experience working with adult learners is beneficial. If in doubt, please contact us and we will be happy to advise you.
 You may reserve a place in the program by completing the Registration Form and paying the deposit ($300) and the material fee ($125).

Can I get a student loan?

This program does not qualify for a student loan.  However your financial institution may approve a student line of credit for part-time studies.

Is a group discount available?

Register three or more people for the same adult education workshop and receive a 15% discount. The Certificate in Adult Education Program does not qualify for discounted prices.

What is required to receive the Certificate in Adult Education?

The Certificate in Adult Education is awarded upon completion of all of the modules and assignments. The final project is assessed and must meet the expected standard.  Assessment is Pass/Fail. Please Contact Us if you have any questions regarding completion requirements.

I would like to teach in the Nova Scotia Private Career College system. Which course should I take?

To begin teaching in the Nova Scotia Career College system, the Department of Labour and Advanced Education requires some instructors to study the principles and practice of adult learning and teaching. The program which is accepted by the Department for this purpose is the Certificate in Adult Education. The Certificate program meets the content and evaluation criteria set by the Department as well as the 80-classroom hour minimum.
Note: the 3-day Train the Trainer workshop is not accepted by the Department for the preparation of instructors to teach in the college system.  There is no formal evaluation process in this workshop and it does not meet the 80-hour minimum.

Can I claim tuition on my Income Tax Return?

Dalhousie University College of Continuing Education is a recognized institution under the Income Tax Act which means that College tuition fees are eligible for tax credit.  When paid in full, you will receive an official receipt that may be used for reporting education costs on your Income Tax Return.  

Note: Continuing Education courses do not require the 2202A tax form.

Where can I park on the Dalhousie Campus?

There is a Pay and Display lot at the corner of LeMarchant and South Streets. Entrance is off South Street. The fee is $2 an hour and is payable by coin or credit card (VISA or MC).
