Sociology MA student Leah Crowell was interviewed on CBC Radio's Information Morning recently for her pioneering work with the families of people who are incarcerated. During her MA research with incarcerated young adults, she found that their families were struggling too. She founded MOMS, or Mothers Offering Mutual Support, to break the isolation of people (typically mothers) who have family members in prisons. The group meets monthly in Halifax, and is already an invaluable source of support. Crowell hopes that MOMS will be able to expand to cover other areas of the province and offer a broader range of services.
