Applications are now being accepted for our Summer 2020 intensive Russian Program Abroad in St. Petersburg that will run from May 9 - July 5.

Application Deadline: Monday, December 2nd, 2019

Application Process:

  • If you are a Dalhousie student, please use this link to apply: Dal Students
  • If you are a non-Dalhousie student, please complete the Application Form and submit all application material to Official transcipts must be provided in a sealed envelope and mailed to the department. 

Elegibility Criteria:

  • Be in good academic standing with a cumulative GPA of 2.7 or above. 
  • 2nd year and above
  • Completion of first year Russian language course
  • Be eligible to register at Dalhousie for the period of the international experience.

Required Documents to be submitted: 

  • English essay
    • 2 pages, typewritten and double-spaced.
    • Include information on your future educational and professional plans and what steps you have taken and will be taking to achieve these goals. How do you plan to arrange your Russian studies leading up to the summer term?
  • Russian essay
    • 2 pages, typewritten and double-spaced.
    • Write an autobiography in Russian, with no assistance other than the use of a dictionary. Include a description of your academic and non-academic interests and activities in the autobiography.
  • Scan of your passport ID page
    • Passports must be valid for at least two years after your planned date of departure from Russia. If your passport expires prior to that, you will need to renew your passport right away.
    • If you are accepted to the program, we will temporarily require your physical passport to obtain your Russian visa.
  • Official transcripts
    • You are required to submit one official copy of all transcripts from each university or college attended. Transcripts for Dalhousie University are not required as they are already on file.
    • Official transcripts must be provided in a sealed envelope. They may be received directly from the issuing institution to the Russian Program Abroad prior to the deadline at the address below.
  • 2 references (to be emailed to
    • Name and contact information of two academic references. They should be from persons familiar with your academic background and your Russian language ability; one at least should be a teacher of Russian with whom you are currently studying.
    • Reference letters should be submitted directly by the referee to the Russian Program Abroad prior to the application deadline.
