Roll Wisdom: Philosophy and Tabletop Roleplaying Games
Join the Virtual Philosophy Network (www.virtualphilosophynetwork.com) and professional philosopher, writer and game designer Trystan Goetze for a discussion of philosophy and tabletop roleplaying games.
"Tabletop roleplaying games (TTRPGs) like Dungeons & Dragons are more popular than ever before. But rarely do we pause to consider some of the deeper questions raised by these games. In this talk, I want to argue for two things: first, that philosophy can improve your games, and second, that games can do philosophy. To do this, I'll employ C. Thi Nguyen's theory of games from his recent book, Games: Agency As Art (https://global.oup.com/academic/product/games-9780190052089)".
Dr. Goetze is currently a Banting Fellow at Dalhousie University. His areas of research specialization are social epistemology and moral philosophy. As a game designer, he has published pieces for use with 5th edition of Dungeons & Dragons, as well as numerous other games.
