New Date! - Shaar Shalom Lecture at Dalhousie University: featuring Lieutenant General the Honourable Roméo A. Dallaire


The 2017 Shaar Shalom Lecture featuring LGen Romeo Dallaire, originally scheduled for Thursday, February 9, has been rescheduled to Wednesday, April 5. The lecture was postponed as a result of inclement weather on the originally scheduled date.


The Shaar Shalom Lecture at Dalhousie University is an annual lecture series which explores the broad themes of tolerance, multiculturalism, diversity and difference in contemporary Canadian society. Established as a partnership between the Shaar Shalom Synagogue and the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences this lecture series demonstrates our shared interests in bringing these themes to wider civil society.

Lieutenant General the Honourable Roméo A. Dallaire, O.C., C.M.M., G.O.Q, M.S.C., C.D., (Retired)

2017 Lecture Topic:
"All Humans are Human"

Roméo Dallaire is a retired Lieutenant-General, former Senator, and is celebrated as a humanitarian worldwide. His passion for child rights and protection led him to establish The Roméo Dallaire Child Soldiers Initiative at Dalhousie. The Dallaire Initiative is a global partnership with the mission to end the recruitment and use of child soldiers. This mission was inspired by his experience as the UN Force Commander leading the peacekeeping mission in Rwanda (UNAMIR).
