Hiring: Assistant Professor in U.S. History (Limited Term)

The Department of History at Dalhousie University invites applications from junior academics with a completed PhD for an early-career teaching position for a 10-month limited term appointment in U.S. History at the Assistant Professor level, effective 1 August 2020.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach three courses in both the Fall and Winter terms, including a mix of lectures and seminars. The candidate will teach survey courses in 19th and 20th century U.S. history, from the Civil War to the present, along with smaller, more focused courses to be determined in consultation between the candidate and the Department. An ability to teach courses that contribute to one or more of the Faculty of Arts and Social Science’s interdisciplinary programs will be considered an asset: e.g., in Black and African Diaspora Studies; Cinema and Media Studies; Gender and Women’s Studies; Indigenous Studies; Law, Justice and Society; or the new certificate programs in Heritage Studies and Medical Humanities. Applicants must have a PhD in hand by 1 August 2020 and demonstrate potential for excellence as a teacher and a scholar. The position is subject to budgetary approval.
