The DASA Lecture Series invites you to Off the Shelf, a lecture on the design process and the story of StudioAC by co-founders Andrew Hill and Jennifer Kudlats.

Hosted by the Dalhousie Architecture Students Association (DASA), the lecture series brings leading architects, designers, and thinkers to the School of Architecture each term.

Off the Shelf considers architectural practice as an accumulation of ideas, experiences, references, and relationships that are continually revisited, tested, questioned, and refined through the act of design. Through an edited chronology of StudioAC's work, the lecture traces the emergence of a distinct design language while reflecting on the enduring influence of education, mentorship, and the studio's formative years at Dalhousie.

The lecture is free and open to all.

What if play were a key part of age-friendly community planning?

Join Dalhousie's School of Planning on Monday, October 5, 2026, for a talk with author Maxwell Hartt, who will introduce ideas from his new book, Aging Playfully: Reimagining the Possibilities of Age-Friendly Community Planning.

Drawing on extensive research, Hartt explores how play can encourage physical activity, spark creativity, build social connection, combat loneliness and ageism, and expand how we plan for the health and well-being of aging populations.

About the author: Maxwell Hartt is Director of the Population and Place Research Lab and Associate Professor of Geography and Planning at Queen's University. A registered professional planner and two-time Fulbright Scholar, his research focuses on how people shape places and how, in turn, places shape people. His latest book is Aging Playfully: Reimagining the Possibilities of Age-Friendly Community Planning.
