Do you use Panopto videos in Brightspace courses?

Posted by Stephanie Rogers on July 13, 2018 in News

In the past, there were issues with viewing permissions on Panopto videos in courses after content was imported from a previous semester. The system providers have made some adjustments to the integration of Brightspace and Panopto to resolve the permissions issue. However, there are caveats.

When you copy/import a course in Brightspace, Panopto will automatically grant students in the new course with access to the copied videos. No configuration is required on Panopto, this functionality is automatic. However, please note that the embedded sessions in the source course must have been embedded using the Panopto Embed Tool and must have been embedded after 9/20/2016.

The Panopto Embed Tool is only accessed from within the html editor in Brightspace. This means if you want to add a topic link to a video you DO NOT use the Upload/Create>Video or Audio path. You must use the Upload/Create>Create a File path [for detailed instructions, see: http://edtechtruro.edublogs.org/2018/07/05/panopto-embed-tool/] .

If your videos were embedded by adding a video and copy/paste the embed code, you will need to deal with the permissions or your students will not be able to view the videos.
