Dal AC Student Receives Rotary Youth Leadership Award

Posted by Stephanie Rogers on April 8, 2016 in International News, News

Shanthanu Krishnakumar came to Dalhousie Agricultural Campus in the fall of 2014 in the Horticultural Technology degree program.

He left the familiarity of his home town of Coimbatore in Southern India to complete his degree at Dalhousie University (Dal AC) in Truro, Nova Scotia.

While at the Faculty of Agriculture he not only survived all the changes and cultural adjustments he excelled and grew.  Shanthanu quickly became a leader for international students and the campus.

His desire to help and appetite for new experiences led him to apply for the Rotary Youth Leadership Award on the Rocks conference in the summer of 2015 sponsored by the Rotary Club of Truro.

Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) is a Rotary International program in the Youth Services Avenue of Service. RYLA’s are leadership programs coordinated around the globe. RYLA on the Rock is a leadership conference for all young professionals, ages 18-30, currently pursuing their education, just starting their career, or already working in their fields who strive to develop personal and professional skills that will help take them from average to elite.

In his presentation to the Rotary Club of Truro in September 2015 Shanthanu spoke of the great experiences in St. John’s Newfoundland which included, “kissing the cod!” Most importantly Shanthanu promised to get involved in the Rotaract Club in Guelph during his Masters studies.

True to his word Shanthanu has joined the Rotaract Club in Guelph and it is only a matter of time before he makes a positive impact on his new community.

Well done Shanthanu!
