Managing Difficult Conversations -Truro

Performance, behaviour, and mental health are among the many issues that require a conversation that may prove to be difficult. While avoiding difficult conversations is one option, nothing changes with that approach.

This session for managers and supervisors aims to enhance participants' confidence and competence in having challenging discussions with their staff and colleagues. Attendees of this practical and interactive workshop will:

-          explore the many variables that make conversations difficult
-          learn about beneficial practices for overcoming the difficulties
-          learn from the experiences of their colleagues
-          engage with scenarios as practice for the real thing
-          know what resources are available to support each situation

This session will be led by Janice MacInnis, a professional facilitator and HR administrator, with over 20 years’ experience in workplace learning. She is the Manager of Organizational Health in Human Resources, advancing Dalhousie as a healthy workplace.  Janice advises Dal colleagues on issues of communication and conflict, ranging from coaching individuals to launching institutional initiatives. She is a keen collaborator, priding herself on getting things done by forging partnerships and synergies across the university and beyond. Janice earned her Master’s in Adult Education from St. Francis Xavier University, and holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree and a Certificate in Adult Education from Dalhousie.
