Travel and Area Information

The International Vaccinium Symposium provides attendees with the opportunity to visit and enjoy the Canadian maritime provinces of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island with each having their respective charms, attractions and coastal adventures. With most attendees  flying into the Halifax Stanfield International Airport (https://halifaxstanfield.ca/),  the meeting will begin in the city of Halifax at Dalhousie University. The meeting will conclude at the Prince Edward Island Convention Centre, with its close proximity to commercial fields, processing facilities and tourist attractions. Transportation from Halifax to Charlottetown is being provided as part of the registration fee, and transportation back to Halifax on 30 August will also be provided, with clear notification needing to be provided by attendees during the registration process.

Activities based in the Halifax portion of the meeting will include a preconference tour to the Annapolis Valley and a social gathering at the historic Alexander Keith’s Brewery on Monday, August 26th.  The field excursion day (Tuesday, August 27) will start with a visit to the Truro Agricultural Campus and the Wild Blueberry Research Centre of Dalhousie University, a visit to a fresh pack blueberry and strawberry operation (Millen Farms), a tour of Oxford Frozen Foods Limited, and a stop at the historical Fort Beauséjour, before proceeding to the Prince Edward Island Convention Centre.  The convention centre will also be the location of the Tradeshow and poster sessions, and a cultural excursion with the theme “By the Beach, Over the Coals, and Under the Moon” will occur with travel to the north shore of Prince Edward Island on Wednesday night (August 28).
