Modern Beekeeper Module 4
Bee Maintenance and Business Growth
Next offered Saturday and Sunday September 8 and 9, 2018 (Bible Hill, NS)
The fourth module in the program focuses on honey production including a tour of a local operation. Business management for various operations will be introduced and you will learn how to prepare a hive for winter.
Through a combination of lecture and tour, you will be looking at the key elements of a beekeeping operation, including extraction plant design and equipment storage. Bottling and product processing locations will also be identified. A field trip to a successful operation will provide the details in laying out a successful operation and a chance to network.
A key to any successful business is in the plan! At the end of this section you will be able to estimate capital, financing and cash-flow requirements for beekeeping operations of various sizes and for different purposes.
In the bee yard, you will be preparing a colony for winter by assessing whether it is sufficiently populous, preparing and delivering supplemental feed and treatments to colonies and ensuring colonies are rodent proof, insulated and provided with adequate ventilation to insure minimal winterloss.
