Food Security in Cuba Since the 2011 National Update: A Report Back from Rural Cienfuegos Province

The talk will present the tentative research results on a food security pilot study on the challenges and successes facing co-operatives and family farms in rural Cienfuegos Province since the enactment of the 2011 national economic reforms in Cuba. Prof. Acosta will lead the presentation on the research results from Cuba, Prof. Cameron of the Department of Business & Social Sciences, Dalhousie Faculty of Agriculture, will situate the Cuban model in the wider context including its policy relevance for rural Canada.
Professor Acosta of University of Cienfuegos is completing a four month period of study in Nova Scotia on an Emerging Leaders of the Americas (ELAP) scholarship, and is hosted in Truro by the Rural Research Centre of the Faculty of Agriculture, Dalhousie University, and its International Office.
