The lack of contextually-sensitive community engagement and knowledge translation efforts has been a well-acknowledged weakness of international interventions during the West African Ebola Epidemic of 2014-2016. WHO takes a positive step forward, heralding the importance of integrating social scientific voices, methods, and expertise into all future health emergency responses.

A new web-page is dedicated to this shift in international response approach. Entitled "Social Science: Revolutionizing Emergency Response", WHO highlights the importance of the 'people' in response, as "people, not messages, bring change."

How this will be implemented logistically remains to be seen.
