Jeff Hoyle Bio
Professor, Department of Plant, Food, and Environmental Sciences
Dr. Jeff Hoyle has been an elected Officer of Senate for July 2012 to June 2015 and July 2016 to June 2018. Dr. Hoyle is currently the Vice Chair (Academic Programs), and Chairs the Senate Academic Programs and Research Committee.
Dr. Hoyle has been a member of the Faculty of Agriculture since September 1986 in the Department of Environmental Sciences. Dr. Hoyle received his B.Ed., Dalhousie University (1995); Ph.D. Organic Chemistry, Dalhousie University (1984); M.Sc. Geochemistry, Leeds Univ. UK. (1980); B.A. Chemistry, The University of York, UK (1979); and B.A. Math and Science, The Open University, UK (1979).
Dr. Hoyle has a keen interest in developing new and innovative methods for both teaching and assessment. He has also created much www-based material and encourages students to do likewise. He has also been actively involved in research on organic agriculture, environmental chemistry, organosulfur chemistry and studies of the health of local rivers.
Dr. Hoyle was also the Chief Judge for the 2007 Canada Wide Science Fair in Truro, NS. Previously, Dr. Hoyle was a member of faculty at Gettysburg College, did research at the National Research Council (Halifax) and was a chemistry laboratory technician at the University of Cambridge and the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Foods (UK).
