Ms. Michele Williams

Michele Williams is the managing partner of the Nova Scotia practice of Grant Thornton.  She has been with the firm since 1988 and was promoted to partner in 1999.  As managing partner, she leads the management, client service, business development and resource management of the practice and provides strategic direction to the team to achieve excellent client service and profitable growth for the business.

Professional experience/career history:  Before her appointment to managing partner in 2006, as a practitioner, Michele provided accounting, taxation and general business advisory services to both the public and private sectors, including professional service firms, construction, retail and service organizations, ambulance and other health care organizations, and local union trust funds.

She is the former leader of the professional services sector group which focuses on the unique requirements of professionals including engineers, lawyers, doctors, dentists, architects and others with similar operational needs. 

She also completed numerous consulting engagements, including infrastructure audits at the municipal level, litigation support and analysis, forensic accounting, leading investigations, preparing reports for expert witness testimony, due diligence assignments, budgeting, business plans and projections, and joint venture facilitation planning.

Community involvement:  Michele is a member of the Board and serves on the Audit Committee and the Grow and Nurture the Skilled Workforce Task Force for the Halifax Chamber of Commerce.  Michele is a member of the Professional Conduct Committee for the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nova Scotia.  She is currently Chair of the Accounting Education Foundation of Nova Scotia formerly serving as Vice Chair and Treasurer.  Michele is a member of the International Women’s Forum in addition to fulfilling the role of Treasurer.  She is also past Campaign Chair of the Professional Services Division of the United Way of Halifax where she served from 2012 to 2015.

From 2004 until 2014, Michele served on the Board of the Discovery Centre holding a variety of executive positions including Treasurer, Secretary, and Chair of the Nominating Committee and was a member of the human resources committee.
