A native of Prince Edward Island, Lawrence (Larry) Stordy QC was appointed to the Board of Governors in July 2007 and as Chair, Board of Governors in July 2014.  As Chair, he serves as an ex officio member on all Board Standing Committees and serves as Chair of the Executive Committee.  He is also a member of the Community Affairs and Governance & Human Resources Committees.  He was admitted to the British Columbia Bar in 1985, the Nova Scotia Bar in 1986 and has practiced law in Halifax since 1986.  Larry is a partner in the Halifax firm, Stewart McKelvey, and is a member of Stewart McKelvey’s Partnership Board.

Larry has a diverse Corporate-Commercial practice with substantial experience as a lead lawyer for Corporate-Commercial and Merger and Acquisition transactions.  He served as a member of the Board of Trustees of the QEII Health Sciences Centre Foundation and Chair of the Governance Committee until June 2014.  He currently serves as an Honorary Trustee of the QEII Foundation.

Larry is identified by Lexpert Magazine and “The Best Lawyers in Canada” publication as a leading practitioner in Canada in the areas of Corporate-Commercial law and Mergers and Acquisitions, and in 2006 he was named one of the “Top 100 Creative Lawyers” in Canada by Lexpert Magazine.

Larry holds a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree from the University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI), as well as a Bachelor of Laws (LLB, for which he was awarded the University Medal in Law) and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Dalhousie University.  He is a past lecturer at Dalhousie Shulich School of Law in areas of business law and corporate finance.

Larry is married to another Dalhousie law school graduate, Wendy MacGregor, and they live in Halifax with their three university-aged children.
