Brian R. Johnston, BSc, MD, FRCSC
Dr. Brian Johnston is a Thoracic Surgeon in Saint John, New Brunswick. He is the Vice-President of the Dalhousie Alumni Association and resides in Rothesay, N.B. with his wife Lisa and two children, Emma and Adam. Brian is an Assistant Professor of Surgery at Dalhousie University and is based at the Saint John Regional Hospital. He has long been involved in the surgical education of medical students and residents.
In addition to his professional interests in Minimally Invasive Thoracic Surgery and Surgical Education, he has provided leadership at the local and provincial level in the measurement and reduction of surgical wait times.
Brian is a native of Prince Edward Island but he and his family have had a long connection with Dalhousie University. Brian earned Bachelor of Science ('88) and Doctor of Medicine ('92) degrees at Dalhousie University in addition to completing Post Graduate Medical training in General Surgery in 1998. He completed a Clinical Fellowship in Thoracic Surgery in Birmingham, England. Lisa received a B.Sc. in 1988 and a B.Sc.OT in 1991. Their daughter Emma is currently enrolled in the Faculty of Science Medical Sciences program. Adam attends Rothesay High School and is considering attending Dalhousie in the future.
