Dr. Fiona Black 

About

Dr. Fiona Black became associate vice-president, academic in 2013 after a decade in Dalhousie’s Faculty of Management, where she served as a professor, an associate dean and director of the School of Information Management. Having also been seconded to the role of director, academic programs prior to taking her current position, Dr. Black brings several years of academic and administrative experience to the role.

  • Inclusive approaches within academic programs (current and long-term development)

    • First year academic programming
    • Design of majors to ensure clear pathway to degree completion,etc.
Teaching and Learning
  • Centre for Learning and Teaching reports through this position, specifically the ED
  • Raising the profile of teaching and learning, with leadership support to the ED and the Director of CLT
Academic leadership development
  • Deans’ Orientation
  • Heads/Chairs/Directors’ Orientation
  • Leadership succession planning, including for colleagues in under-represented groups
  • Annual programming
Tenure-stream faculty members’ development
  • Annual cycle of workshops at the reappointment stage and the T & P stage
