The Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) recently announced its participation in the National Quantum Strategy (NQS).  NSERC received $5.4 million to support the implementation of the NQS’ talent pillar, through the Collaborative Research and Training Experience (CREATE) grants.

CREATE supports efforts to develop, attract and retain top quantum talent in Canada. Funding is available through the upcoming 2022 CREATE competition, and NSERC will fund at least three CREATE quantum initiatives for the current competition. Supported initiatives will develop diverse research trainees ready to transition to the Canadian workforce in areas including, but not limited to, quantum communications, quantum sensing, quantum materials, quantum computing and quantum algorithms/encryption. 

CREATE quantum applications will be evaluated through the normal CREATE peer review process, but be sure to include “quantum” in the title of your research project. Up to two Letters of Intent above your university’s quota can be submitted in the area of quantum research.
