Ocean Frontiers Institute ‑ Virtual Conference

Posted by Jaq-Lin Larder on November 16, 2020 in Events

The Ocean Frontiers Institute (OFI) virtual conference is November 17 and 18. If you have not yet registered, please do so here.

We look forward to presentations and discussions on ocean research and industry engagement (with Plenary Speaker Nina Jensen), alignment with the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (as workshops with invited Moderators), presentations on our core research from OFI researchers, as well as active alignment with national and international focus themes “the Sustainable Blue Economy” and “Carbon Neutrality” through the creation of Blue Papers.

Ocean and ecosystem changes are at the core of OFI’s natural science agenda, while human impacts, solutions and innovation are part of the social science and applied science and engineering agendas at OFI.

Our mandate beyond pure research is to ensure that the pure research has impact beyond the research community itself.

After we have heard from OFI researchers directly, we will workshop Blue Papers on “the Sustainable Blue Economy” and “Carbon Neutrality” – defined very broadly, with the aim of hearing how all OFI research aligns. Re-envisioning our work as fitting into this framework, we can deliver key information of immense use to policy makers. We hope to discuss plenty of “pure” research at the conference in this context.

Please encourage your colleagues and those in your research groups to join us.

If you have any questions about how you can engage with the planned agenda, please contact Khrista Jeffrey, khrista.jeffrey@oceanfi.ca.

We are very much looking forward to hearing your voice next week,
