In order to facilitate the process, we will be holding an information session with NRC in mid-September that will be followed by a call for proposals that will be due in mid-October. It is anticipated awards will be announced in late October or early November.

The main themes of interest as indicated by NRC include the following:

  • Environmental genomics
  • Coastal resilience, particularly nature-based infrastructure
  • Waste streams from fisheries
  • In-water technology improvements
  • Micro- and nano-plastics transport and impact
  • Aquaculture
  • AI-assisted:
    - ice prediction in the St. Lawrence River (estuary to Port of Montreal)
    - ship performance (emissions reduction and fuel efficiency, and anomaly detection)
    - maritime autonomous surface ship operations (navigation and maneuvering) in ice

PI’s are strongly encouraged to start identifying NRC leads that could be collaborators.
