Invitation to the Canadian Student Health Research Forum 2020

Posted by Jaq-Lin Larder on July 13, 2020 in Events

The 2020 Canadian Student Health Research Forum (CSHRF) will take place virtually during the week of August 24 – 28. This forum is a valuable opportunity for health research trainees in all fields at the doctoral level (PhD and MD/PhD) from across Canada to present their work, to network, and to be recognized for the excellence of their contributions. The forum will feature a judged research poster exhibition, awards of excellence and opportunities for students to network around their research posters. A notable highlight will be the participation of Gairdner laureates, both as symposium speakers and for small group mentorship interactions with student participants. Another highlight is the very popular CIHR Career Development Workshop (please note the relevant CIHR resource regarding Health Research Training).

For more information on the 2020 CSHRF, click here.

CSHRF is inviting all Canadian faculties offering graduate programs in the health sciences to select your top 5% PhD students to participate in this event.

What CSHRF will provide:
CSHRF has secured support and resources to provide students who attend with complimentary registration to the Forum. Registration includes the (judged) poster presentation, Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) awards of excellence, access to the Gairdner Symposium and small-group Gairdner mentorship sessions.

Please note that this event has been modified in response to the current pandemic environment and will be presented virtually, using Zoom and similar platforms.  Details are provided on our website.  The most notable impact regarding timelines is on our student participant poster presentations.  As poster presentations will need to be video-recorded and uploaded for pre-viewing by the poster judges, the deadlines for registration (July 13) and video-upload (Aug 3 – 7) are very tight and inflexible – time is of the essence.  Students will need to be available on Aug 25 for poster discussion with judges.

What CSHRF is asking from the Canadian Institutions:
Each faculty is requested to identify the students in health sciences programs such as medicine, nursing, basic sciences, medical rehabilitation, dentistry, pharmacology, etc., who would qualify for participation (i.e., the top 5% of their PhD students and whose research would be relevant to the breadth of programs funded by the CIHR).

Instructions for Submitting Nominations:

  1. Select your top 5% of PhD students in the health sciences such as medicine, nursing, basic sciences, medical rehabilitation, dentistry, pharmacology, etc., using the process you have in place for the recognition of excellence in your institution.
  2. Complete the Participant Selection Form by clicking here.
  3. Send all nominated students to the CIHR National Presentation Registration Form 2020 to register for CSHRF by clicking here

The application form must be completed by July 13, 2020.
