Dear Nova Scotia Health Research Community,

On behalf of the Nova Scotia Integrated Health Research and Innovation Strategy (NS IHRIS) Network Steering Committee we are excited to announce two upcoming opportunities that will shape health-related research in Nova Scotia.

The first is a series of inaugural NS IHRIS stakeholder forums. As you are aware, establishing an effective Health Research and Innovation Strategy in Nova Scotia requires a full range of perspectives from partners and stakeholders across the province. We want to hear from you. It would be great to have you attend one of the IHRIS stakeholder forums so that we can collaboratively build an effective, robust health research and innovation ecosystem. To support your attendance, three stakeholder forums will be hosted by partner organizations in Central, Eastern, and Western Nova Scotia. Please attend one or all. We expect discussions and presentations will vary across the province.  

At each half-day stakeholder forum, participants are invited to share their perspective, ideas, and aspirations related to:

• Key priorities and areas of focus of NS IHRIS
• Changes needed to address key priorities in NS health research and innovation
• Greatest opportunities and most pressing challenges in developing a health research and innovation strategy

The second upcoming opportunity is the Maritime SPOR SUPPORT Unit (MSSU) NS Bridge Event. MSSU NS Bridge Events bring together health policy decision makers, health care professionals, researchers, and patients and caregivers to address priority health topics. The MSSU team works closely with the Nova Scotia Department of Health and Wellness, the Nova Scotia Health Authority (NSHA), and IWK Health Centre to identify the priority health topics for discussion.

This collaborative approach to addressing health priorities and driving future research, engages many of the same stakeholders in a way that aligns with NS IHRIS objectives - making it a natural fit to host the MSSU NS Bridge Events in conjunction with the NS IHRIS stakeholder forums.                                           

The NS IHRIS Stakeholder Forums and MSSU NS Bridge Event dates and locations are:

• Tuesday, November 12 (8 am - 1 pm) - Central NS - Dalhousie University, McInnis Room (NS IHRIS Stakeholder Forum only – no MSSU NS Bridge Event) being hosted by multiple IHRIS partners in metro
• Thursday, November 14 (8 am - 5 pm) - Eastern NS - Cape Breton University, Multi-purpose room (Joint MSSU NS Bridge Event 8 am-12 pm and NS IHRIS Stakeholder Forum 1-5 pm) being hosted by CBU, MSSU and StFX
• Spring 2020 (8 am - 5 pm) - Western NS Event – Acadia University (Joint NS IHRIS Stakeholder Forum and MSSU NS Bridge Event)
