Women as Agents of Change in the Americas

Posted by Jaq-Lin Larder on February 4, 2019 in Research Funding

Global Affairs Canada (GAC) has issued a call for preliminary proposals for a new initiative, “Women as agents of change in the Americas”. This initiative will be funded to a total of $30M over 5 years.

This call is intended to promote greater coherence between humanitarian actors and host governments and to increase access and reduce barriers to quality education for women and girls. Your preliminary proposal must document the ways in which your project would address root causes and structural barriers of gender inequality and focus on one or more of the following:

  • multidimensional economic discrimination and exclusion of women and girls;
  • gaps in governance and political representation of women (and their networks); and
  • the situation of sexual and gender-based violence.

The ultimate outcome of all projects funded under this call will be enhanced gender equality and empowerment of women and girls in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) region. The preliminary proposal must also demonstrate how it will ensure the project’s sustainability by strengthening the capacities of local partner organization(s).

Applicants are expected to present project proposals which:

  • have a duration of least two years and not more than five years;
  • present budgets ranging from $2 million to $5 million;
  • take place in ODA-eligible countries in Latin America and the Caribbean

Full details can be found on the Government of Canada's website.

Note that applicant organizations cannot submit more than one proposal to this call. Any Dalhousie faculty member interested in this opportunity is therefore requested to contact the International Research Manager as soon as possible, and not later than Monday 11 February 2019, to register interest and obtain more information.
