CIFAR Call for AI & Society Workshops

Posted by Danielle Andres on April 27, 2018 in Research Funding

As part of the Pan-Canadian A.I. Strategy, CIFAR is inviting the academic community to submit proposals for workshops on the social, ethical, economic, and legal dimensions of artificial intelligence. Open to applicants anywhere in the world, this call will provide up to $80,000 to support short-term collaboration between international, interdisciplinary groups.

The collaboration is expected to culminate in a CIFAR-supported publication targeted to non-academic sectors, such as policymakers or NGOs. Proposals are welcome on any aspect of the intersection of A.I. and society, however proposals exploring AI through the following three themes are particularly encouraged (A): Policy Considerations, (B): Global Dynamics of AI and (C): Discovery and Creation.

Workshops must be comprised of a core team of three to four international and interdisciplinary researchers or practitioners, coming together in a new collaboration, who intend to address topics of global importance. At least one core team member must be based in Canada. It is expected that all members of the core team will be internationally recognized leaders who are considered experts in their field.

More information on the program can be found on CIFAR’s website.

Any faculty member interested in this opportunity is asked to contact the International Research Manager in Dalhousie Research Services (jennifer.morawiecki@dal.ca), for more information and support in preparing an application.

Deadline: 28 May 2018
