Dalhousie researchers applying for funding from US Federal agencies are advised that Dalhousie has a newly-approved College and Universities Rate Agreement, which takes effect on 1 April 2018.  This agreement sets Dalhousie’s new Facilities & Administrative (F&A) cost rate for the next three years; this is the rate at which overhead/indirect costs are to be included in research budgets for projects funded by US Federal agencies.

Dalhousie’s new rate has been established as 62.9% for on-campus projects, calculated on direct salaries and wages only (including vacation, holiday, sick pay and other paid absences, but excluding all other fringe benefits).

Researchers applying to US Federal agencies such as the Office of Naval Research, US Department of Defense, US Department of Agriculture, Congressional Directed Medical Research Programs (CDMRP), etc. should ensure they are using the updated F&A rate for all budgets submitted after 1 April 2018.

Note that this rate does not apply to National Institutes of Health (NIH) budgets.  Researchers applying to NIH should continue to use NIH’s specific overhead rate of 8%, which is applicable to all institutions outside the United States.
