International Call on Scenarios of Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services

The Belmont Forum and BiodivERsA are pleased to announce the 2017-2018 international call for research proposals on “Scenarios of Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services”.

The call aims to promote innovative research for more informed decision-making by developing scenarios of biodiversity change and its associated ecosystem services, resulting from the complex interaction of socio-economic and global environmental trends.

Scientific teams wishing to participate in this call must form international consortia, comprising research groups from at least three eligible countries.  25 funding organisations from 23 countries, including Canada, are participating in this call. Countries include Argentina, Austria, Belgium, Brazil (State of Sao Paulo only), Bulgaria, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Ivory Coast, Lithuania, The Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, United States of America.

Canadian teams participating in this call will be funded by NSERC, which has earmarked $300,000 annually over three years for this initiative.  Funding of up to $75,000 per project over three years will be available to Canadians in successful consortia.

A two-step process will apply, with a mandatory pre-registration of projects at the first step and submission of full proposals at the second step. Pre-registrations and full proposals must be submitted electronically via the EU’s Electronic Proposal Submission System (EPSS).
