A Service Agreement is used when a company pays for the services of a research laboratory. In these cases, the industry partner typically defines the scope of work. Service Agreements differ from Research Collaboration Agreements because there's no intent to generate intellectual property or publish research findings as a result of activity outlined in a Service Agreement. Instead, those involved are either applying existing knowledge to a particular problem or generating data of limited application. Established methods, protocols, tools, and expertise are used to accomplish a very specific goal.
