Ready to Implement

Since face-to-face classes of any size are suspended after March 15; students must complete your course remotely.

Use the following guide to ensure your course is remote-ready for students no later than March 23. Additional resources on each topic are available on this remote teaching website and are regularly updated. Email support@dal.ca with the subject line COVID-19 and your course number with questions or if you need further assistance.

DO NOT SUBMIT A FULL EXAM. Please contact support@dal.ca and we’ll contact you at that point to coordinate sharing the information.

Quick Start to Remote Teaching — A Guide

1. Log in and find your course

When you log in to Brightspace, first find your course. If you do not see your course, please contact support@dal.ca with COVID-19 and your course number in the subject line.

2. Watch some video tutorials

Familiarize yourself with Brightspace by watching these short video tutorials. Create content using Panopto or other recording methods. We’re recommending recorded content over live content due to the possibility of students having slow internet connections.

3. Add content

4. Create assignments

Explore ideas about alternative assessments by the Centre for Learning & Teaching.

5. Consider exam alternatives

You are encouraged to consider these two alternatives to an exam:

1. My exam could be redesigned as an alternative assessment completed remotely (e.g. final paper).

2. My exam could be cancelled and the weight of the exam could be spread across other assessed work .

If an exam is required, due to one of the following situations, please note the corresponding recommendation:

a) My exam could be moved into Brightspace to be completed in a non-proctored format.
Please contact the Brightspace support team to help you bring your exam online using the subject line: COVID-19 and your course number.

b) My exam would need to be rescheduled because it MUST be completed face-to-face.
You are encouraged to contact your Dean for directions on how to proceed.

c) My exam could be completed online (in Brightspace) but MUST be proctored virtually.
You are encouraged to contact your Dean for directions on how to proceed.

DO NOT SUBMIT A FULL EXAM. Please contact support@dal.ca and we’ll contact you at that point to coordinate sharing the information.
