The Dalhousie University Paper Policy recommends that employees should be connected to a local multifunctional device (MFD) for their printing requirements, where possible.
When single-use equipment is deemed to be required, devices should meet the following criteria:
- ENERGY STAR qualification
- Ability to duplex print
- Toner cartridge recycling program
Upon installation of a new printer, the ENERGY STAR low-power feature should be enabled and duplex selected as the default output setting.
Colour printing is five to seven times more expensive than monochrome (B&W) printing. Colour printing should be used only when necessary, for example, in marketing materials or external communications. For the printing of internal communications, email, and draft documents, monochrome printing is recommended.
