These are some of the questions we are asked most often and we'll continue to build this list. Please contact us if you have questions that aren't answered below.
Why can’t I see my course in Brightspace?
a. You’ve been assigned to the course, but it hasn’t been pinned your home page. Log in to Brightspace and click the “Select a Course” grid icon at the top of the page. Find the course you need and click the pushpin to the right to make this visible in the MyCourses widget.
b. You haven’t been enrolled in the course because you are not listed as the instructor in the Academic Calendar (e.g. the Calendar indicates “Staff”). Contact your faculty administrator to get access to your Brightspace course.
c. The course shell/space hasn’t been created yet. Contact Academic Technology Services (ATS) to get the course shell.
How do I schedule a consult with an educational developer?
If you are not yet working with an educational developer, please contact the Centre for Learning and Teaching to schedule a consultation.
How do I join Going Online Together: Dalhousie Teaching Community in Brightspace?
To join Going Online Together: Dalhousie Teaching Community, send a request to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Where do I go for technical support?
Contact Academic Technology Services (ATS), a unit of the Dalhousie Libraries.
How do I get access to the equipment I need to teach online?
Contact your faculty administrator.
Why can’t students see my course in Brightspace?
a. The course is not active. Go to Course Admin>Course Offering Information and ensure the "Course is Active" box is checked.
b. The student hasn’t pinned it to their home page. The student can log in to Brightspace and click the “Select a Course” grid icon at the top of the page, find the course, and click the pushpin to the right to make this visible in the MyCourses widget.
c. The student hasn’t been enrolled yet. Enrollment for courses is typically updated about twice a day.
Why can't I play video files in Brightspace?
This could be a browser issue. Brightspace functions best in Chrome or Firefox.
Why can’t students access my Panopto videos?
a. You have not added the Panopto Recordings link to the Content area of your course. Contact Academic Technology Services (ATS) if you need assistance.
b. Check the permissions on the video or course folder by going to Settings>Share. Under the "Who Has Access" heading, you should see a group called "YourCourseName::Viewers." If you don't see this group, contact Academic Technology Services (ATS) for assistance.
c. The student has not enabled third-party cookies in their browser settings. If the student needs assistance with this, they can contact the Help Desk.
Where can I get training on Microsoft Teams?
ITS provides support for Microsoft Teams. There is general information about how to use Teams, as well as training videos available on the ITS Sharepoint website (log in required).
