Civic Engagement

The MacEachen Institute plays a key role in advancing our understanding of Canadian democracy and civic engagement. We explore ways in which citizens participate in electoral processes at the federal, provincial and municipal levels, identifying reasons behind voter behaviour and the obstacles to engagement. Equally, we examine new formal and informal avenues by which to influence the policy process, including the changing roles of NGOs, industry groups and social media, and the responsiveness of public institutions to these new forms of engagement.
