Undergraduate Certificate in Materials Science

IRM has spearheaded a certificate program offered through the Faculty of Science -- a Certificate in Materials Science.

A Certificate can be completed by a student in a BSc program, in addition to the student’s regular program requirements. Completion of such a Certificate is noted at convocation and shown on the student’s transcript.

The purpose of a Certificate in Materials Science is to show that the graduate has appropriate training in the breadth and depth of materials science, in addition to their BSc program. It is particularly suited for students in Chemistry, Earth Sciences and Physics programs at Dalhousie University.

Students should enrol in the “Certificate in Materials Science” by contacting the Certificate Coordinator, Dr. Mita Dasog (mita<dot>dasog<at>dal<dot>ca) . Students can enrol when in their second, third or fourth year of the BSc program, but early enrolment is advised.

See the details about the Certificate in Materials Science.

Dalhousie Research in Energy, Advanced Materials and Sustainability (DREAMS)

DREAMS was an NSERC Collaborative Research and Education Training Program (CREATE). The purpose of DREAMS was to train a cohort of research scholars at all levels (graduate, undergraduate and postdoctoral fellows). Through advanced materials research, DREAMS trainees addressed important aspects of energy production, storage and sustainability.

DREAMS was funded between 2010-2016 as a program of The Institute for Research in Materials.

Undergraduate Student Research Awards (USRA)

Every summer, NSERC funds a program called Undergraduate Student Research Awards (USRA).  USRAs are meant to stimulate students' interest in research in the natural sciences and engineering. They are also meant to encourage students to undertake graduate studies and pursue a research career in these fields. If you are an undergraduate student and you would like to gain research work experience that complements your studies in an academic setting, these awards can provide you with financial support.

Dalhousie is a USRA host university and we encourage undergraduates to apply for a USRA with one of the many materials researchers who are IRM members.

Information for the Summer 2018 USRA program will be available in December.  Please check back then to learn more.
