Dr. Camille Hancock Friesen is Professor of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery at UT Southwestern Medical Center and serves as the Surgical Cardiothoracic Director of the Adult Congenital Heart Disease program. She is a pediactric cardiothoracic surgeon at Children's HealthSM who specializes in caring for both children and adults with cogenital heart disease. 

Dr. Camille Hancock Friesen completed her undergraduate and medical education at the University of Alberta. She then completed her post-graduate training in surgery and cardiothoracic surgery at Dalhousie University in Halifax, NS. She completed an advanced 18-month fellowship in congenital heart surgery at Boston Children's Hospital/Harvard University and then began her clinician-scientist research career in Nova Scotia where she spent the first half of her career caring for children with heart disease and congenital heart conditions. Dr. Hancock Friesen also developed a research portfolio aimed at improving patient safety, treatment outcomes and children's wellness. She has been awarded research funding from both industrial and governmental sources, and is presently Co-Principal Investigator of a $1.2 million public/private partnership grant from the Public Health Agency of Canada. This work which is named "Uplift" and is launching in March 2019 and is centered on catalyzing sustainable population and systems level culture changed in health, by partnership development and empowering youth as change agents.

As a Professor, she is an academic leader teaching courses in advances cardiac care to medical students, residents and fellows. she is a member of the Society of Thoracic Surgery, the Canadian Cardiovascular Society, the American Heart Association and is a fellow with the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Hancock Friesen is also a member of the Cogenital Heart Surgeons Society Committee on Quality Improvement and Outcomes.
